Vapor barrier

There is a collection of experience in the home building industry that states that crawlspaces need to have a vapor barrier (or more accurately, a vapor retarder). These help prevent too much moisture from coming up out of the soil to cause problems in the crawlspace.

Here is a vapor barrier that I installed under a crawlspace. It is composed of 6-mil plastic, well overlapped. The water vapor that has condensed on the lower left corner demonstrates that it is doing its job!
